Sound — 9
311's sound is impressive. When you think Rap Metal, not only do you think "talk about two opposite sides of the music world", you probably envison bands like Limp Bizkit or Korn (or maybe even Papa Roach). However, this ablum can completely change the way you view rap metal forever. The group's refreshing guitar that can be heavy and serene at the same time, just as it can rock out loud and still relax you to sleep all in one song. The every song is beautiful, and this album proves just how influential 311 was to some of the most promising bands today.

Nick Hexum and "SA" Martinez lay down some fresh beats that only they know how to do. A classic album, in terms of it's lyrics, which boasted the #1 Hit "Down", "All Mixed Up", and "Don't Stay Home", as well as multiple songs that could have easily gained radio play ("Sweet", "Guns (Are For Pussies)", and "Misdirected Hostility").

Overall Impression — 9
This is 311's most successful album, reaching triple platinum, and displays 311's true musical genius. Their influences are numerous and well spread. 311 developed a sound unlike anything at the time. Simply put, bands like Incubus would not exist today if 311 hadn't paved the way (hey, that rhymed).

Simply put, bands like Incubus would not exist today if 311 hadn't paved the way even though incubus' first album came out in 1995

Yeah, incubus and 311 aren't good to compare. Fungus among us sounded nothing like any 311 albums. They had a psychadelic funk rock theme, while 311 had a rock-rap-raggae theme. Anyway, this is the album that really put 311 in the public eye with songs like down and all mixed up, and for good reason.

yeah.. i don't see similarities between 311 and Incubus. although, i haven't heard that much of 311, but pretty much everything Incubus has done. and none of it seems the same so far. both bands are very unique.

Incubus used to open for 311, so yes, the review was correct. and you can hear a lot of similarities between 311 and incubus if you listen to the right songs. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. sounds a lot more like 311 than any other incubus cd. also, their band set up is almost identical, the only difference being the dedicated DJ. both guitarist and bassist had very similar styles (dirk lance), the drummers are both excellent with very complicated lines, and the lead vocals often plays an instrument as well as singing.
