Angel Vivaldi: Signs Of Life Inside

I discovered Vivaldi on Pandora, and instantly fell in love with a metalcore virtuoso whose has taste, freshness, and skill. Did I mention originality? Angel Vivaldi would best be described as the lovechild of Killswitch Engage and Steve Vai, put together by chugs and amazing lead lines in a heartbeat. He stands out from the crowd, using his lead guitar skills instead of the effortless and done-over-and-over-again breakdowns. His backing band also has a good amount of talent, the rhythm guitarist adding and complimenting Angel's parts, and the bass and drums fitting well into the mix. Production here is pretty solid. Overall, the lack of a breakdown, use of more lead lines, and a solo make it stand out from the rest of the slushpile.

Max Illidge acts as the vocalist for this unusual release, considering most of Vivaldi's work is instrumental. His range for both growls (ranging form shrieked from lower death growls) and singing is pretty solid, the chorus in particular, being pretty emotional due to a higher range set of notes. The lyrics are a bit overdone (my only complaint), speaking about the usual heartache, but they actually fit the song well. Kudos to Vivaldi for finding this guy, and kudos to Max for bringing a new dimension to Angel's music.

Angel Vivaldi can be described as his own league in the "-core" scene, using his own personal quirks to defy the rulebook and rise to the top of the saturated scene of metalcore. This song is easy to enjoy and awesome to listen to, if not for the vocals and guitar, but the emotion in the notes. A must have for anyone who likes shred and metalcore, and isn't afraid to rip the metalcore manual into shreds. Note: If you're interested, check out his other EP's, "The Speed Of Dark" and "Universal Language".
