AqME: La Fin Des Temps

Sound — 8
Just a year after their second, record-breaking album (no. 1 in France), the French neo-metal band AqME have released "La Fin Des Temps" (The End Of Times) to show to the rest of the world what they are capable of and man. Who would have thought that French metal could be so agressive, so dark? Compared to the 2 previous albums, this one sounds just more rock. The band has made incredible efforts and especially with the guitar parts: a lot of solos have been written, and the sound became just more softer, more melodious. However, the drums dindn't lose any of their energy. It's incredible: every beat sounds like a lightning bolt fallin' on the ground.

This is certainly one of the biggest problems of the band: yes it's normal for a metal band to have dark lyrics, but when the theme of the album is death, when every song is just about how miserable we are, etc. You just wanna stop listening to it. Even if this CD is entirely written in French, you can easily understand what is said (Je pleurs toute la journee, ma vie est triste), otherwise if you just don't speak French at all, well there's just no problem! The voice of Koma is just beautiful!

Overall Impression — 6
"La Fin Des Temps" is a very good CD, this is absolutely certain, but it is not the best one I've heard of them: the instruments are good, yes, but what's the problem then? Here it is: even if AqME are the best French band there is, they have lost a lot of their old style: I used to jump like a mad guy when I saw them live, now I am waving my lighter in the air during 2 hours! The CD is just not heavy enough! Only a few songs ("Tenebres," "Le Poids Des Mots") will satisfy the old fans of the band like me, who certainly am disappointed.
