Art Brut: Bang Bang Rock & Roll

Sound — 9
This was the bands first album and was never actually written down in a studio instead it was born from the bands amazing and hilarious live shows in which they experimented with was they could do to the music. This means the album isn't the best produced or clean sounded but it capturs real rock and roll, punk music with tracks such as my little brother really showing what can be done with basic power chords. But the music also has a differnet side with traks like emily kane and rusted guns of milan showing a more commerical side to the band but still makes you want to run around your bedroom as you listein to it like any other.

Here is where the power of art brut is. Eddie Argos (lead singer) is not your every day singer his lyrics don't use metaphors or observe the world they simple tell the story of his feelings towards everything he sees. Infact he orgianally wanted to do an album about italian terriots but could only write 2 songs about them. The album starts with perhaps the best opening song to any album formed a band witch simple tells you about how happy eddie argos is to be in a band and what he hopes to go with it, with lines like "We're gonna be the band to write the song that makes israil and palistien get along" which is as funny as exciting to here a person so amazed by being a band. His albums then continue in a simialr fashion singing from a range about not being able to get an erection with when his girlfreind when he's in bed with her to being an italyian teriost. But it's the excitment he creates in all his songs that make you interested witch is probally most seen in the best song on the album good weekened.

Overall Impression — 10
The album is like nothing else although you can hear some influences in the music and lyrics it creates somthing compeltly dirffernt. There's nothing on this album I'll change but I doupt art brut will ever do an album like this again as it just seems to see Eddie Argos life at that exact moment.
