Ash: Trailer

Sound — 6
At only 17 years of age Ash released their first album Trailer. The music is good although the sound is rather rough. They were called the worst band in County Down until this record came out and received great reviews. Although by no means brilliant musicians at this point, they play together very well. Worth knowing, at this point there band slogan was: guaranteed real teenagers, too young to marry, vote or drink in a pub, but not too young to sell themselves for sex!

Lyrics — 6
The lyrics are above average and in songs like 'Jack Names the Planets' you could tell that Tim Wheeler would become a brilliant songwrier. His singing however was far from brilliant. In some songs his voice worked well but in others ('Get Out') it was poor at best.

Overall Impression — 6
Although it is Ash's worst album it is still quite strong. Songs like Jack Names the Planets, Petrol, Uncle Pat and Season pointed to great things ahead but for now they were just another pop-punk band. The one thing I hate about this album is the song 'Obscure Thing' it is very bad. But 'Jack Names The Planets' is a classic. An album for completists only.

I personally think this was one of Ash's best album up there with "1977" and "Twilight of Inoocents". This review is a bit harsh I think the raw sound is part of what makes it so orginal. And "Get Out" was actually sung by bass player Mark Hammil and the whole worst bad in County Down was a joke created by the band once they made it big, they got great live reviews before this EP.
I think this review is quite bad. You should be objective. If you think Obscure Thing is very bad, that's your problem. You could say it's one of the lesser songs of the album. Saying it's very bad is just very bad itself. And like theflamingyouth said, the raw sound is original. Really, this revieuw suckz.
i ****ing love this album, its really raw. aside from meltdown, i think its some of their best work
