Sound: Upon hearing Attack In Black's album Marriage, I had only heard of one song, the title track "Marriage" and immediately put on that fast beat yet catchy three and a half minute track. The rest of the CD then became very boring and I couldn't listen to it until I saw it's beautiful departure from old time 90s punk, to a more beautiful and magnificent decent in into a progressive rock with elements of that same old Attack In Black punk mixed with the prog rock, melodic voice harmonies and chamber music instruments to complete the mix (who wouldn't want a french horn played during every chorus). There is no doubt that Attack In Black- now bridging mainstream here in Canada- have something over other poppy sounding acts, a real understanding of Canadian culture and sound. // 10

Lyrics: To go on about Attack In Black's lyrical devotion in ever song would be pointless. From my perspective, this band is quite entirely about the music, a mood that is set and figuratively sets them apart from mainstream garbage. Naturally, like all good lyrical bands, they rely on emotion to right the lyrics but unlike most bad bands, they rely on emotion besides the common ones like hatred, anger, broken hearts, and jealousy. The bands material instead focuses on more cheery subjects like their love for northern towns, innuendoes about the past, life growing up like a kid, happy love, and life plots in general. They aren't lyrically brilliant but there is a genuine feature to every song that is almost relieving. // 9

Overall Impression: In comparison to other artist in their block of music, Attack In Black stand out as a band that's proud to be their own, proud to show their roots, proud to show their musical influences, and proud to show an immense emotion in music. There is no doubt that if the CD were lost or stolen I would go out and buy it again. I really enjoy the diversity in the music, the chamber music instruments, keyboards and almost perfect harmony with voice and contemporary rock set up. The album is laden with catchy tunes making it easy to drive along to or just listen to straight through with little effort. Recording quality isn't 100% but hey, you can't always be so picky with music right! // 10
