Few pop records offer this much to savor, and if Paul's Boutique only made a modest impact upon its initial release, over time its influence could be heard through pop and rap.

Sound: In a nutshell, 1989's Paul's Boutique is the best album the Beastie Boys have produced yet and is one of the greatest albums of all time. Every song is fresh and funky, and takes hip hop in a completely new direction. The samples are original and brilliant, the lyrics are funky as hell and the guitar riffs are mind bending. This album covers everything from rap to metal to county and western. This album is the soundtrack to my life - corny but true. // 10

Lyrics: The lyrics are the best and most original from the B-Boys. More or less gone are the bratty, snotty vocals of Licensed To Ill, in are funky rhyming couplets about girls, food and life. Very original indeed - just checkout Hey Ladies, which features the lyric "Van Gogh go and mail that ear." Hmm. // 10

Overall Impression: Overall, I love this album. It represents everything the Beasties do best. Here's a quick run through: 01. To All The Girls - 9/10 a slow, jazzy intro to the album. 02. Shake Your Rump - 10/10 fast hip hop, one of the Beastie's best. 03. Johnny Ryall - 10/10 brilliant and memorable. 04. Egg Man - 10/10 very cool song. 05. High Plains Drifter - 9/10 in the same vein as Paul Revere. 06. Sounds Of Science - 10/10 amazing samples! Really funky. 07. Three Minute Rule - 8/10 weakest track on the album, but still great! 08. Hey Ladies - 9/10 jam packed with samples. 09. Five Piece Chicken Dinner - 10/10 20 seconds of country music. Ha! 10. Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun - 10/10 hardcore riffs. 11. Car Thief - 10/10 the albums stand out track. You must hear it! 12. What Comes Around - 9/10 funny lyrics, catchy. 13. Shadrach - 10/10 makes you want to boogie, brother! 14. Ask For Janice - 10/10 not really a song, more of an advert. 15. B-Boys Bouillabaise - 8/10 good, too long though. If you want to download some songs, make sure you get Car Thief and Shake Your Rump and Shadrach. You'll want to dance like a muppet all night long! If this album was stolen, I would without hesitation buy it again. Beastie Boys at their best, get it now! // 10
