Black Sabbath: Paranoid

Sound — 10
Altough the sound quality is'nt great its certainly a step up from their debut album. This is easily made up by the sheer power of the songs on the album. From the opener 'War Pigs' through to the end of 'Fairies wear boots' this album is timeless classic. 'Paraniod' and 'Iron Man' are two of the greatest heavy metal songs ever written and in my view, of their later albums only 'Volume 4' can match it in quality. If it was'nt for this band and this album the genre of heavy metal would not have existed.

Lyrics — 10
Geezer Butler wrote most of the lyrics on this albun and he's introducing all of the subjects that would eventually be associated with the genre, anti-war (War Pigs), suicide (Hand of doom), going insane (paraniod) etc. Ozzy doesn't have the greatest voice but his sense of melody is superb. He gives the album its spine-chilling guality and creates a haunting impression that stays with you long after you've finished listening to it.

Overall Impression — 10
If you're new to the genre this should be you're first purchase. It incomparable to anything else that was going on at the time. 'Paraniod' (the song) is possibly the greatest heavy metal song ao all time. No matter how many times it were lost or stolen I would still go out and buy it again and again. This is a absolute cassic. Buy it.
