Butthole Surfers: Weird Revolution

Definitely the weak point of the band here, this album is a complete change in direction for BHS, they go into a gangsta style here and pretty much alienate most of their fans. The album does have some good tracks which are pretty cool. But not many. The album is mainly filled with gangsta beats and a lot of water effects, basically the only thing that saves it are the several good tracks and Pauls guitar still stands out on some of the tracks, as for the vocals, bass and drums, they are generally not very memorable or that enjoyable.

The lyrics seem rather stale and there's not much to say about them, they have a rap structure to most of them and it seems as though they are trying to get more out of the Pepper sound, however this album truly shows that they shouldn't have tried to milk off that song any more. They do pull it off on several songs but trying to make the whole album in this style was a mistake for the band. The singing does fit in well with most of the songs, but that still doesnt't necessarily make them great, Gibby Haynes doesnt't really show any of his true talent here and seems as though he hardly bothered with this album.

Overall Impression — 6
This is by far BHS worst album. It is a 12 track album that should have been a 4-5 track EP as most of the songs just sound bad and are just terrible. The best tracks on the album would be "Venus", "Dracula From Houston", "Yentel" and "Intelligent Guy". I would definitely not recommend this to a new listener of BHS as it sounds barely alike to any of their other work and is of course their least enjoyable album. It is good to get if you are already quite a fan of BHS and does have its moments but overall I wouldn't recommend to buy it unless you are a big fan of BHS or are into collecting full discographies. If this were stolen or lost I would probably replace it but would just buy a cheaper 2nd hand copy just for the sake of keeping my BHS collection complete.
