Danzig: Circle Of Snakes

Sound — 10
This is the perfect combination of both older and newer Danzig sounds. The detuned, chunky guitars of Danzig 5-7 dominate the album while bringing back the bluesy feel of the first four Danzig albums. Keyboards add to the ethereal vibe.

Lyrics — 8
The lyrics are typical Danzig lyrics about death and all things morbid. Danzig is the god of dark metal and this new album only drives that point further home. The vocal melodies go perfectly with the music. Danzig's voice, however, maintains what some may see as a progressive weakening. There aren't many of the yells that were so prevalent in the first five albums, yet his vocal range and singing talent as a whole has improved somewhat since those albums.

Overall Impression — 10
A true return to Danzig form, Circle Of Snakes is definitely a must have for fans of Danzig or dark metal in general. All the elements are there vocals, chunky guitars with cool riffs, eerie sounding keyboards, and a wonderful rhythm section on bass and drums. The songs 1000 Devils Reign and Black Angel, White Angel are the standout tracks in my opinion, however the album as a whole flows together song-to-song just as well as Danzig 4. If somebody stold this album I'd definitely suck the marrow from their spinal column or go out and buy it again whichever one was more convenient at the time.
