Sound: Lots of keyboards, huge choirs, catchy choruses and melodies, epic atmosphere... Everything that you want to hear from an Epic Metal band, and that's exactly what Fairyland is offering to you! Fairyland is a French Symphonic/Epic Metal band, and a must-check band for fans of Rhapsody of Fire, Power Quest and stuff like that. Their most recent album "Score to a New Beginning" is a great Epic/Symphonic/Melodic/whatever Metal album, with lots of many different singers and musicians, so you don't get bored to the album easily. You can hear male and female vocals on the album, but all the songs share one thing: they are great! The album has a clear good production like almost all new metal albums, with melodic guitar solos and LOTS of keyboards, which are the lead instrument in the album. Of course, there are different kinds of keyboards in the album: You can hear classic piano parts, epic Rhapsodyish keyboards and some Nintendo/Dragonforceish keyboards if you know what I mean? Unlike many other Symphonic Metal bands (like Heavenly from the same country), Fairyland's music is not extremely fast and full of double bass pedal, but it doesn't matter, since Fairyland's excellent keyboards, epic atmosphere and extremely catchy choruses in every single song make this album one of the best Symphonic Metal albums ever released. // 10

Lyrics: The lyrics... Well, what do you expect from and Epic Metal band? Cheese, cheese and cheese. Cheesy lyrics, but I don't care, since you have to have some cheese while listening to Epic Metal. Also, bands like this aren't to be taken too seriously, at least the lyrics aren't. And I'm not really paying much attention to the lyrics, so I don't really care about them if the music is good, and in this case, it is! And of course, the lyrics fit in the music perfectly! The singers however are great. Some melodic and more-but-not-too-aggressive male vocals, and some opera and more "normal" sounding female vocals. Just great. // 9

Overall Impression: Compared to the other Fairyland albums... Well, they have three albums, and I have this and the first album "Of Wars in Osyrhia", and I think this one is better. Why, because "Score to a New Beginning" has many singers and better keyboard work, and the songs are more epic. So once again, if you're a fan of Epic/Symphonic Metal music, you should be already buying this album. If it were stolen, I would definitely buy a new one immediately! With some influences from bands like Heavenly, Power Quest, Rhapsody of Fire, and maybe even from Kamelot in some songs, "Score to a New Beginning" and Epic Metal masterpiece with not a single filler song that will blow your mind! To get a good idea from the album, try listening to songs like "Across the Endless Sea Part II" and the slower song "A Soldier's Letter" // 10
