Finntroll: Jaktens Tid

Sound — 10
It's time for hunt. Sound quality has increased a lot from "Midnattens Widunder". Also one thing that you notice right at the first song is the use of acoustic guitars. The whole sound of music much more happy than it was on the debut. If you want to relax and listen something fun, try out "Slaget Vid Blodsälv" and you know what I'm talking about. Everything has improved so hugely, that it just amazes you. Can't really say a bad word about the music and sound, it just works perfectly. If we really want to be whining about something, a metal instrumental could be nice. But "Bakom Varje Fura" is just fine. Also the intro could've been more interesting.

Lyrics are once again about trolls. This time not a big story. Again Swedish language with troll lyrics fit perfectly the music. They also added a cool thing; they had Jonne from Korpiklaani to do yoiking on songs "Jaktens Tid" and "Alddhisla". Seriously, what possibly could be more awesome than hear cool music with some young boy yoiking and Katla yelling "ADDHISLA"? Katla's voice has been improved since "Midnattens Widunder" wich is good and bad thing. I liked the random stylish screaming at the song "Svartberg" for example, wich can't be heard here. But still it's good, expect Katla can't go very low on vocals. So he's basically just doing high screams.

Overall it's nice album. Maybe it could be better with a few songs less and better intro, but it's fine now. It's hard to compare Finntroll albums, they're all so different. "Midnattes Widunder" is wild black stylish folk about troll war, this is happy sounding folk metal, "Nattfödd" is heavy and dark metal... Can't really complain. Most impressive songs are "Slaget Vid Blodsälv" because of the pure humppa, "Jaktens Tid" for it's killing speed and yoiking chorus and "Alddhissla" for it's all epicness. While it's not their best album (in my opinion), it's still the album that made them famous. The troll sound is kept with all happy melodies and epicness and that's what folk metal is about.
