Green Day: American Idiot

Sound — 9
Punk rock lives on! This CD is one of Green Day's best. It is the CD that made me a Green Day fan, and see them live in concert. The sound is great. The opening track, "American Idiot", Starts off with a lightly distorted guitar (Blue, Billie Joe's Fernandez Stratocaster). Then it explodes into heavy guitars and pounding drums. The songs are a bit longer. They were made in the shadow of The Who's rock oprea's. "Jesus of Suburbia" and "Homecoming" are long but good. It's amazing that such a good CD was produced from a band thinking of throwing in the towel.

The lyrics of this CD are amazing. The first song, "American Idiot", has a great tune. Billie Joe may not be recognized as one of the greatest singers around now. The stories told through "Jesus Of Suburbia", "Homecoming", "St. Jimmy", and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" are beautiful pieces of work. It's amazing that they could do something like that. Billie Joe usually writes great songs, but these are amazing.

Overall Impression — 9
The CD is up there as one of Green Day's best. I personally beleive "Dookie" was their best, but this comes in at number 2. "American Idiot", "Holiday", "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams", and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" are the best songs off this album. Some of the songs don't do much for me, like "Give Me Novacaine" and "Extraordinary Girl", but the CD still rocks. This CD proves punk rock is still alive and kickin'!
