Green Day: Dookie

Sound — 10
This album in my point of view is the creme de la creme of all the LA punk albums. It's fast, punky, has a hell of a lot of attitude and most of all it rocks! Many people would probably dismiss this album as dumb and average pop-punk. That is totally wrong! The songs have catchy riffs and are way more punk than pop. None of the instruments overpower each other on the album. The bass, drums and guitar all stand out and accompany Billie Joe Armstrong's vocals brilliantly.

The lyrics are way more sophisticated than the average pop-punk album. Basket Case, Welcome To Paradise, She, Longview and Pulling Teeth all have fantastic words. I mean usually on the average American pop-punk almost all of the songs are about boy meets girl, girl hates boy type of thing. But here Green Day write about a girl who beats him up, general madness and moving away from home. All good!

Overall Impression — 10
This album is a punk classic. No questions asked. If you've heard a couple of Green Day songs you like but don't know which album to buy then buy this. It's classic Green Day, and if it were stolen from somebody (who obviousley has good taste) then I would rush to the nearest music shop as soon as possible an buy the album again.
