Sound — 9
All of the songs on this DVD are live and sound amazing. They are recorded from the Fillmore East Auditorium on January 1st, 1970. He playes memorable songs like Machine Gun, Changes, and Who Knows. Buddy Miles, Billy Cox, and Jimi Hendrix all can play their instruments, without a doubt. But being a bassist, I was unsatisfied not being able to hear Billy very much. But it didn't take away from the sound of the whole DVD.
Content — 10
This DVD is about Jimi Hendrix's change from the Experiance to the Band Of Gypsies. It has a documentary on it from his change from two of the bands as well as a full length concert. There are also interveiws with Noel Redding, Billy Cox, Buddy Miles, and many others. It also contains footage from Jimi's apperance on the Dick Cavett Show. Some very interesting things are on this DVD that I have never seen or heard before.
Production Quality — 7
The camera used in the shooting of the live concert footage is crap. But you can't expect it to be great, it was shot in 1970. The camera isnt steady during the live concert and it leaves a trail effect when it moves that can get a little irritating. It has a main menu where you can also select wheather to watch the documentary or the live concert. You can skip a song too by pressing the next chapter or skip button on your remote.
Overall Impression — 9
This DVD was really interesting to watch. Although it has a boring DVD case and doesn't look interesting, it will surely keep your eyes on the TV and your ears listening. The documentary section is really catchy and has some very interesting information that I have never heard before. The live concert section is also very good but the camera is crap and takes a little away from watching it. Overall, this DVD is very good and I would definatley buy it again if it were lost.
