John Mayer: Heavier Things

Sound — 8
Much more jazzy than the two previous albums. I like some of the hooks in the more up-tempo songs, but all in all it's a good sound for him.

Lyrics — 10
I like the lyrics, I think that Split Screen Sadness is one of the songs that really shows off Mayers songwriting skills, but Daughters, Wheel and Something's Missing are also proof.

Overall Impression — 10
I think this album is comparable in quality to Inside Wants Out. Depends on the feel you're after. Inside Wants Out was definitely a softer, more delicate approach, Room For Squares was more up, this one is following the more up, but done with a jazzy effect which is incredibly suited to the lyrics. Well done John Mayer. The most impresive song overall is definitely Split Screen Sadness and Come Back to Bed is one that gets inside you slowly. If it went missing? I would definitely buy it again. John Mayer makes me feel, as a musician, that we have a chance to grow out of pop and head toward a more mainstream jazz feel.
