Killswitch Engage: Alive Or Just Breathing

Sound — 10
From the first note I was totally perplexed by the force of this albumn, the sound is perfectly tailored to the type of band they are. The musicianship is incredible, totally flawless and can be seen as an exemplory lesson is modern metal. It is so good to hear bands breaking away from the nu-metal, emo style of music and inject some heartfelt passion and force into what they create.

Lyrics — 10
Jesse Leach seems to pull every trick out of the bag here, the two songs that display his talents best are the title track and 'Element Of One.' His range is incredible, moving from metal grunt to a passionate cry without effort. The lyrics are inspiring, rather than focusing on the bad stuff, he conveys an image of hope and unity with his lyrics which again is so refereshing in the modern metal climate.

Overall Impression — 10
Killswitch Engage are blatantly ahead of their field, there is not a weak track here and production to match. This is one of the finest metal albumns of the last decade and is a sure must for any self respecting metal fan.
