Ligeia: Your Ghost Is A Gift

Sound — 10
Ligeia delivers a crushing debut album on Ferret Records. This band sounds similar to such metalcore titans as Unearth (wich could be because is produced by Ken Susi of Unearth) and Bleeding Through. This album has some great and semi-frequent breakdowns. The drums on 'Your Ghost Is A Gift' are fast and brutal but know how to slow things down on the melodic clean singing parts. This all together, makes the album sound great.

Lyrics — 9
The lyrics aren't that great but there not at all bad either and the singing or screaming sounds great and matches the music nicely. Keith Holuk has a great screaming voice. The screams are varried nicely and are not always the same tone. Even better than his screaming voice is the singing voice which fits greatly with the instrument parts. Most of the lyrics tend to deal with the horrible feeling after a relationship falls apart. Even with that as the lyrical theme, this is not an emo album it is straigh up metalcore.

Overall Impression — 10
The songs seem to be structured like your basic metalcore bands with screaming and occasional clean singing which is not a bad thing. The 3 songs that stand out the most are probably "Heart Attack", "Wishing Well", and "Makin' Love to a Murderer" which features guest vocals from Phil from All That Remains. I would go and purcase this cd if it was stolen right away.
