Metallica: Ride the Lightning

Sound — 8
This is probably Metallica's best album so far, it represents Metallica's growth from Kill 'em All, and has some of the best solos of any of their other records. In this album they truly show the greatness of their musicianship, through harmony and their overall tightness. The only problem with this album is that it sounds a bit small and distant. But overall it's a good album.

The lyrics in this album are all top notch, if a little obvious. James sings about everything from Armogeddon, to the exodus. James's voice suits the lyrics but his voice is nowhere near as good as it was on the black album. It sounds a bit like Ozzy Osbourne used to.

Overall Impression — 10
This album really set Metallica apart from all the speed\Thrash metal bands of that era, this album had everything, superfast riffs, brilliant orchestration and harmony, touching lyrics and one of their best ever ballads "Fade to Black". The only problem with this album like I said before is that it sound thin tone wise. But if it got stolen I'd certainly buy it again.
