Metallica: Ride the Lightning

Sound — 10
Metallica's second album, it beats their first album out by a mile. It seems to me, that Metallica starts to come alive in this album. Jamez is the one really to come out of the shell and get some good vocals down. This CD has great instrumentals as well. Overall probably their second or third best CD behind Master of Puppets and possibly Black Album. Still a great CD though.

James vocal ability is shown in this album more than in their first album Kill 'Em All. 01. Fight Fire With Fire - a great intro to the song but the song sort of slides down a hill except for the rift after the classical intro. Vocals are a bit annoying as well. Good solo though. 02. Ride The Lightning - amazing song. Cool and almost scary-like intro that fits the song well. About a guy about to be killed in the electric chair. Very good vocals, the whole band really comes together for this one. Amazing solo as well. 03. For Whome The Bell Tolls - this song can definetely follow up the title track. Amazing Bass during the intro and drums thruout the whole song. Guitar is very well done and vocals are great too. 04. Fade To Black - Metallica's second best song I believe. The intro is their best though. Amazing combo of acoustic and electric. Song goes into a heavy metal riff then a sweet pre-solo then later on a mammoth of a solo. Who though a song about depression could be this uplifting? 05. Trapped Under Ice - this song unfortunately cannot follow the previous 3 songs. Although it has very nice soloing I just couldn't get all the way through it. 06. Escape - song was about the same as the other song. A good first riff then an ungood rhythm. Decent soloing but still not the best of tracks. 07. Creeping Death - good vocal song and cool main riff for the guitar, excellent drumming. Super cool chorus too. Who would have thought to sing about moses? Really fast soloing near the end too. 08. The Call Of Ktulu - amazing instrumental, guitars & drums really put out some cool sounds, some people say instrumentals are stupid but this one definetely isn't.

Metallica's Second or Third Best Album containing their second best song: Fade To Black on behind their best song Master Of Puppets. I would definetely attempt to gain this CD in some way or form. Vocals start to come alive in this CD. Kirk does a better job than last CD and Lars is lars and Cliff is Cliff. Great job by them.

this album rocks, i like how Cliff co-wrote half the most of the album, ktulu and fade are the best songs, followed by bellz, lightning and death
