So, this album sets itself much apart from their last two piles of crap, load and reload, are horible excuses for albums. unlike the last two albums this is actually metal. I think that it is a step in the right direction. but going in depth. C guitars! That's bull, it's seems that no one thinks you can make heavy music in good old standard E tuning. What the hell is that? I don't know why they did it, but I gotta say I am not a fan. and the biggest problem on the album is the drums! I don't know how lars thought his kit sounded good!. I can't tell if he is beatin on a trash can or an acutal snare. My god, the man has never had good drum tunings but this was an alltime low. Which sucks because the drummin on the album is actually good. If only he could make his bass clearer turn down the hi hats and tune his damn snare. He would sound much much better.

As far as lyrics go, they suck. In the past metallica lyrics were clever, good metaphors and the like but this album has the worst lyrics ever, you would think james has never written any lyrics before. very un impressed. fran tic tic tock? the hell is that? it sounds infinitly bad. invisible kid is just awful. I don't know what was running through james' head when he wrote those lyrics, it all rhymes and in a shitty way, man. What happenend to good lyrics james? soberin up doesn't agree with your writin man.

Overall Impression — 6
Over all, the album is better than lead and reload, but if you were to try to compare this to the likes of master of puppets it would fail miserably. I don't think they will ever be as good as ride the lightning or justice. So we just have to deal with what ever crap they give us I guess.

St. Anger was a dissapointment to all true metallica fans. And for all the fagets wo tell us to stop whining are truly not metallica fans and need to find real music

When I listened, I thought I picked up the wrong album. The Guitars and drums sound like Slipknot, but with James hetfield. Good thing I rented the album

I'm sick of people saying two things: Firstly, there's the people who say, "True Metallica fans should still like Metallica no matter what type of music they make". This is total crap. So if I want to consider myself a true Metallica fan, am I supposed to like every single album they make, even if they (god forbid) decide to make a freaking britney spears style pop album? Think about what you're saying. If a band changes it's style too far away from the style that their fans love, well that's reason enough for their fans to not like one of their albums. I'm not saying that a band doesn't have a right to change their style, but if they do, their fans are free to stop liking them, and should be able to do so without you *****s judging them for not being true fans. Secondly, there's the people who say that this is the greatest metallica record alongside MoP, or just behind MoP. I assure you, half of these people don't like MoP that much, otherwise they'd probably put St. Anger behind their other classics like AJFA and RtL. They just want to try to avoid being flames, and know that MoP is considered to be Metallica's greatest album by so many people. Imo, if you like St. Anger: 1. I don't understand how you can actually like this album, but 2. At least grow some balls and admit that you like it more than Metallica's classics. In my eyes, doing this is more respectful than hiding behind popular opinions to sheild yourself from flaming.

lol you clearly don't "love" everything that metallica has done. I agree that the black album got boring. It's very unimpressive when compared to the albums that came before it. I like a few songs off Load... but overall I didn't like it that much at all. Same deal with Reload, except Load was marginably better. There's only one song that I'll admit is actually pretty good on St. Anger, and that's Sweet Amber. Imho, by far the best song on the album. Everything about it is so intense. But it would've been twice as sweet with one of Kirk's infamous wah abusing solo's. RIP cliff indeed. Originality, creativity and talent, he had it all.

If it's one thing I have learnt over the years is that fans of any particular genre of music will not understand and appreciate or like other genre's..... of course it is wrong for me to generalise for there are exceptions but i can't get it why some hardcore trash metal fans dont understand anything other than trash metal... same way some pop fans think rock, metal grunge etc is noise and some fans of western classical composers like mozart or beethoven say that metal and rock etc is a blight on the earth.... Music is Music no matter what it is and its up to no one to say wat is good or bad since music is not based on science or ethics so there is not "right or wrong"..... Opinions are welcome but they hav to hav some ground they should not just be,"This album sucks" or even,"this album is great" they should widen up on it more..... for my personal opinion i thought st. anger was not a great performance..... from some other band it wud have been ok but from metallica, the kings of metal,it was mediocre... still it is worth anyones time.... Oh and darkfalco, well said....

Wow I actually take all that crap I said back.. This album is incredible, I sat down and listened to it alot. This is a badass thrash metal album. This is ****ing thrash, thrash can be tuned down to drop c you idiots who are calling this nu-metal. This album is just Heavy riffs played over In-your-face lyrics, Yes I can agree that the snare is annoying but it grows on you. This album is gritty, in your face and agrssive. Good work metallica, Ignore all of this bullshit from people who can't accept a little change.

i guess me, lars, james, kirk and bob were the only ppl that liked the sound of the snares
