MuteMath: Mutemath

Sound — 10
One of the most original and exciting sounds to come around in the last twenty years. They combine elements from rock, punk, reggae, funk, electro, and jazz. Sound weird? Well it is, but at the same time it is so infectious and catchy that one can't help but love it. It sounds a lot like a love child of the Police, U2, and Tortoise. Guitarist Greg Hill fits in perfectly amongst the Rhodes piano and the sampling.

Lyrics — 10
The lyrics are very much like those from the Reset EP. Their Christian beliefs shine through the words to those who know Christ, but they are ambigious enough that mainstream listeners won't be put off. The song "Picture" is an excellent work of lyrics. Paul Meany is a cross between Sting and Switchfoot's Jon Foreman, with some hints of Bono here and there. In short, an amazing voice.

Overall Impression — 10
The most original and brilliant album I have ever heard, bar none. The best songs are "Typical", "Chaos", "Noticed", "Stare At The Sun", and "Picture". If you're looking for the next big thing in music, and I mean the next huge thing, Mute Math is where you'll find it. Just a few listens will reveal what all the fuss is about.

I saw this band live one and a half years ago and they were just great... didn't really like their EP though, missed the 'ambiance' of the concert, sort of.
saw them with david crowder last year. very good. their drummer is off the chain.
saw them last night. even better live than on recording. guitarist adds a fresh element to the music and their drummer is the best i've ever seen
i get goosebumps every time i listen to chaos. it's my favorite. noticed and typical are cool too. they're awesome, i jut love their music! it's such a pity they are not as "famous" as they should be! so they can come to Latin America sometime, haha.
