Ornatos Violeta: O Monstro Precisa De Amigos

When Ornatos recorded their first album (1997), many people hated them for a while. It was a fantastic music shake: ska funk, rock, pop, melodic, with fantastic lyrics. But people look at them like an amount of kids trying to do something funny and bring something different to portuguese music. In 1999, "O Monstro Precisa De Amigos" (The Monster Needs Friends) had changed all the opinions about Ornatos, everything about that album is so easy to adore. It's hard to say if it is the best portuguese album ever, but I'm sure is one of those. Every song is so special and load such a big emotional face. Although Ornatos had finished in 2001, this album will be always present and it leaves a whole in everyone who love Ornatos.

I'm sure everyone will wish to be portuguese just to feel what singer says. Manel Cruz is such a literarie genious, with a hipnotizing voice. He can make you feel that those lyrics were writing for you. It's hard to choose the best one, but maybe "Chaga," "Ouvi Dizer," "Capito Romance" or "Noticias Do Fundo."

Overall Impression — 10
I'm still impressioned with this album, and it had been recorded 6 years ago. Many people consider Ornatos as the best portuguese band of the last decade because of this album, so you could image how it is. Listen to it. Even if you don't understand portuguese.
