Perception: Realisations

Sound — 10
Upon listening to the tracks, you immediately think of the influences this band have. Perception seem to be influenced by Periphery, Monuments, Volumes and the whole progressive metal movement (djent). These guys sound like they know what they're doing. The Tracks are well written they have what every metal fan could want, Technical grooves, hard hitting drums, powerful bass movement, hefty sound vocals, and melodic vocals and guitars. These guys have released a killer first EP. All recorded by the band and mixed/mastered by friends. A huge sounding record. Artwork created by the vocalist, also looks very professional. Music styles/Influences for this EP are clear. Periphery, Monuments, Volumes, Structures, Heart Of A Coward. Just To name a few. These guys clearly know how to play their instruments well, and write songs. This EP is definitely worth a listen, or even buy it.

Lyrically, the songs sound pretty good. With hard hitting harsh vocals and in places melodic clean vocals. The vocals on this EP are sounding tight. A little improvement on the clean vocals wouldn't go a miss, but nonetheless, still sounding very professional. These guys could easily play with the bigger bands in the genre. The lyrics flow really well with the music. In clean breaks from the music the harmonies pull through creating a really well formed song. The vocals are performed by the lead vocalist, and bassist. The harsh vocals are perfectly suited to the songs they've written, in some places the clean vocals could sit slightly better, and the clean vocals could be improved a little bit more.

Overall Impression — 9
This bands music compares very easily to the likes of Periphery. With the technical guitar riffs, the complex off time drums, the clean and harsh vocals mixing is very characteristic of Periphery, and these guys have emulated this very well, but not down right copied them. Perception have taken aspects from Periphery and essentially made it their own. The most impressive songs from this EP are definitely the title track "Realisations" and "With/Without". These two tracks are very very well written and are leading these guys to success. The other three tracks are also very well written and produced but aren't quite at the same caliber as these two tracks. Things I love about this EP is that, it doesn't get boring the more you listen to it, the tracks all fit well together and none of the tracks stick out as a track they didn't really know what to do with. The EP is very well formed and has some killer tracks on it. Things is dislike are that the clean vocals could be improved. That's pretty much it, everything else seems to be very professional. If it was stolen or lost I would definitely consider buying another copy. These guys aren't selling their music for much so I'd definitely buy another copy. But I can safely say, this CD is staying firmly in sight.
