Reel Big Fish: Cheer Up!

Sound — 10
Reel Big Fish are probably the most well known of all modern punk-ska bands, and they really have an excellent sound. Their latest album, Cheer Up, has more of a punk/emo sound to it than their earlier stuff, which may not appeal to the more hardcore ska fans. Having said this some of the really catchy and best songs are the emo ones, such as 'Where have you been?', 'Good Thing' and 'Drunk Again'. The ska ones are faster than ever and still have that unique Reel Big Fish sound.

Lyrics — 8
The lyrics are memorable and fun. They often rhyme and are quite funny in places, as well as sometimes reflective and profound. Aaron Barett, lead singer, carries all singing off very well, he has an excellent voice which really comes through on tracks such as 'Drunk Again'.

Overall Impression — 10
Reel Big Fish are a great band and have a lot to offer. Their fun sound is great to listen to, although this album would have benefited from songs with more of a horn section sound. If I lost this album I would be heartbroken because it is excellent and really picks you up when you feel down. Ska is the most underrated of genres, go and buy this! You get eighteen tracks for your money plus a great secret track!
