Stevie Ray Vaughan: In The Beginning

Sound — 10
At the time of this live recording this particar Texas guitarist was known simply as Stevie Vaughan. With the passion of Albert King and the flair of Jimi Hendrix this album showcases the talents of a young man destined to re-invent and dominate the blues scene. The 'Ray' brought nothing to his playing nor took anything away.

Lyrics — 8
Typical blues lyrics but without too much cliche, Stevies voice is young but convincing and he delivers emotive ballads with the conviction of a 60-year-old Delta bluesman.

Overall Impression — 10
Stepping out of his brother Jimmy's shadow Stevie Vaughan totally explodes on this live outing. You almost get burned listening to this from the sparks flying off his busted-up strat as he tears his set-list a new arsehole. Within the next few years he would become immortalised at the blues master SRV.
