System of a Down: Mezmerize

Sound — 8
This album is the first of two released. "Mezmerize" is more complex and unorthodox than the previous albums. The sound has not changed much. Some good riffs and catchy and sometimes funny and weird songs, make this is album what it is. The best song without a doubt is "Lost In Hollywood", and "Question". "Question!" features some cool acoustic guitars and "Old School Hollywood" features some weird vocals. The vocals of Daron can get a bit annoying, but does not ruin the sound of the album.

Lyrics — 9
The lyrics as always, are very strange, funny at times, and unorthodox. In this album, they include the topics of: relationships, the evils of television and corporate mind control, the mysteries of life and death, and a surreal experience at a celebrity baseball game!

Overall Impression — 8
01. Soldier Side Intro - great song, and although quick, is a very good intro and you couldn't ask for anything better to start the album. This song connects with the Final song of Hypnotize. 02. BYOB - is a great way to start, with a good riff and cool lyrics. The chorus reminds me a bit of a hip-hop song, but still good. 03. Revenga - another good song here. Some more good lyrics and a cool riff. 04. Cigaro - the most unorthodox lyrics I've ever heard. The song has a good riff, but the lyrics are really the thing that stand out here. 05. Radio/Video - catchy song, some good and bad lyrics. The chorus is my favourite part of the song. 06. This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song - very tounge-twisty lyrics here. Again, unorthodox lyrics, but a good song. 07. Violent Pornography - this song is a lot of peoples favourites, but I never really got into it. The only thing I really liked about it was the catchy chorus. 08. Question! - brilliant song. One of my favourites on the album. Acoustic guitars and great vocals make this song great. 09. Sad Statue - nothing memorable apart from the cool lyrics. 10. Old School Hollywood - has some weird vocal effects, and some very weird lyrics. The vocals are a bit annoying at times, but do not affect the catchy, but weird lyrics. 11. Lost In Hollywood - my favourite song on the album, and one of my favourites of all time. It is a slow song, but nontheless amazing. The lyrics are very good apart from a couple of parts. They describe the dangers of Hollywood. I like this song so much, I used to listen to it over and over again. It reminds me a bit of "Areials", but a bit slower. A great song and the best on the album without a doubt. A must-hear.
