System of a Down: Toxicity

Sound — 8
Toxicity at first may be slightly dissapointing as the first several songs are all heavy thrash type music and sound similar. But those feelings of dissapointment soon leave as you get into the flow of the CD. On the whole the music is quite addictive and you'll find yourself humming one of the tunes long after you've heard it.

But the best part of the CD are the lyrics. In todays world of corporate pop where "dating" is the only thing anyone can seem to sing about, Toxicity is a breath of fresh air. Serj Tankian sings (and shouts) about global and political issues, where he uses metaphors, similes and biblical references to describe what he's singing about.

Overall Impression — 8
With enough contrast between heavy and melodic, a hint of Middle Eastern influence and enough wisdom for three wise men, Toxicity is an emotion fueled CD that will remain a classic. (P.S. the only track that lets it down is Bounce, what a lame).
