Tom Petty: Damn The Torpedoes

Sound — 10
The sound that Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers achieved on Damn The Torpedoes was very diffierent from their first two albums (Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers (1976), You're Gonna Get It (1978)). The first two albums sounded as though they were trying to get through the sessions as quickly as possible. But on Torpedoes the sessions were thoroughly planned out and it really shows. with the help of Jimmy Iovine they achieved something that sounded polished without sounding corporate.

Lyrics — 8
The lyrics on the album are timeless. Refugee is a song about living with something that's holding you down. the love song, Here Comes My Girl is Tom's attempt to rap with a melodic chorus. To close the album they chose Louisiana Rain a song that sounds like a Neil Young track from Harvest.

Overall Impression — 10
The overall of the album is great. It's one of those albums where yo can listen to it all the way through each time yo play it. It can either bring back memories for people who bought it when in 1979 or it can create new memories for people who will buy it now.
