Velvet Revolver: Contraband

Sound — 10
Contraband is full of hard rock style music with a classic feel. Slash and Dave work exceptionally well together. The riffs they play fit together perfectly. Dave gives a solid foundation for Slash to work around, and you can really tell that the music was thoroughly planned out. Add Scott's vocals and you have perfect harmony. These artist have experience and it shows. They understand what they want to sound like and they understand how to produce that sound effectively.

Lyrics — 10
Scott Weiland is an exceptional singer in my opinion. He ranks right up there with Robert Plant. The mood of his lyrics fit with the mood of the song. His lyrics have meaning. They tell the story of how he, and other members of the band, over came hard times in their lives. People say they don't make sense and they are simple and poorly written, but you can really read into them and understand them. They have deeper meanings than you first realize.

Overall Impression — 10
There is a stereotypical machine running rock and roll today and frankly the modern rock I hear on the radio just sucks. Velvet Revolver really breaks through the barriers that all the other bands seem to be caught on. They are doing things the way they want them done and that makes them the best listening experience since the Jimi Hendrix Experience. They will probably be the best for a long time and I look forward to growing up listening to them.
