The key factor here is the electric violin. Sean Mackin adds the special little touch that makes yellowcard unique. It's a sort of a zing that makes you want to listen to the songs over and over again just to hear the violin part. The guitars arent much to die for here except some cool rhythyms and the neat effects.

Guitarist/Songwriter Ryan Key has a good voice, but lacks the talent to write captivating lyrics. They're fun to listen to and easy to memorize, but have no real meaning to them. I also like it when all of the band members vocalize together on the chorus. Together, they sound great and in tune, but are missing the meaningful lyrics.

Overall Impression — 8
Overall, Ocean Avenue is an album worth buying. If you like bands like Blink 182, The Ataris, and New Found Glory, this cd is right up your ally. The things that hold this album down are the lyrics and the guitars beating down the same rhythym the whole time throughout the songs. But it has its high points, like my personal favorite, inside out. Its an album woth keeping in your collection at all times.
