2015 this one was a made in India. Standard 22 fret mahogany/maple combo. I'm guessing more then a few pieces of wood were used on the top and bottom to cut down production costs (read further and you'll see why the LaVoce is only available by mail order). The LaVoce features an awesome piezo bridge by Graphtech - you can put them on any guitar almost and that was the best part of the guitar. By no means does Graphtech cut costs. Has locking tuners, paper thin rosewood veneer headstock, diamond shaped inlays. They darkened the fretboard with stain to either look more uniform or to look like high end ebony. Just keep some soap nearby. Optional hardcase, non optional odour to it.

Ok, so it's called "The LaVoce" which translates to "The the voice" hahaha. It's supposed to be a few guitars in one tone wise. It wants to be and I wanted it to be anyways. Maybe the website just makes it sound that way. Overall, sounds dark, not quite muddy but lacks higher end definition. I had it through a Fender Mustang IV. I don't remember any buzzing. Prob nice/ok for jazz, cleans were ok. It's just missing the mark. Looks decent from 5 feet away.

Action, Fit & Finish — 2
The LaVoce had numerous flaws. Scratches underneath the finish, tons of clear coat touch ups, some flaws in the paint, the nut looked like it was made by a nine year old. Overall pretty low end up close. The pickups were adjusted ok, just dark sounding, maybe if you desired it with 500k pots it would brighten it up. Or just adjust all of your amp and pedal settings for this particular guitar. The set up was ok from the tech dept. I assume they're just finished (their version of finished) in India and then sent out to guitar techs in Chicago. It was set up alright, to bad the techs couldn't look at the poor finishing and fix that.

Reliability & Durability — 5
There was wood filler in the neck joint so no I would not trust it for live playing. The Graphtech bridge was high quality and features a piezo system for great cleans. The tuners looked decent (prob made by Ping, just eBay ping locking tuners). The strap pins also looked ok. The guitar was pretty heavy so could probably take a beating, honestly you might just beat it up for the hell of it. They send them sort of relic'd anyways. The optional case looks amazing/high end but smells like bathroom cleaner/chemicals.

Overall Impression — 4
I sent it back because it was the worst finished guitar I've tried over the $250 mark. They have a money back policy but you're stuck eating the shipping costs. So it's kind of like renting a 2nd rate guitar for a month. And all this after a 7 week wait for it in the first place. Drew and Nolan in customer service are nice guys but they're either really busy or just inexperienced on how to look after a brand new client base. For a newer company they'll learn pretty fast that you only get one shot to attract new buyers.

Thanks for the review. I always thought these guitars looked good and loved the idea of the z-glide. Now I don't have to waste my time.

At $800 you're not far off from getting a Carvin (throw in another $100), and I can tell you (owning two Carvin guitars), it sounds like day and night between the two.

No sir, i respectably disagree. He's a great marketer and promoter but there's been some shoddy work sent from his new company. Maybe DZPL is getting to big to fast but there's no room for 2nd chances in a way over saturated marketplace. Cheers

Totally disagree with the bad reviews. Owning about 8 quality guitars, most made in USA. The Lavoce I own is super nice for the price, it is not a 6000 dollar Les Paul, but for the money it is GREAT!. I think a lot of people have it out for Zelinsky and it shows in the reviews.
