Fender: Tom DeLonge Strat

This guitar does not suit my personal music style. I have tried it through a variety of amps, including my 65' Deluxe Reverb, a Matchless C-30 and a friend's Twin-Rock Custom Reverb (absolutely unbelievable amp). While the pickup is a good one, a bridge humbucker was never going to allow much tonal variety all on its lonesome. I was utterly underwhelmed and grew bored of the sonic monotony very quickly.

Here we go. When buying this guitar, please consider first the man after whom it is named. Tom DeLonge is not quite renowned for his virtuosity on the instrument. What this instrument ultimately represents is Fender's shrewd exploitation of pubescent, pop-punk youth from families with a decent amount of disposable income, this guitar is for the young boy who, for a while, decides he wants to be a cool guitarist like the aforementioned Mr. DeLonge, but never really goes any further than Blink songs and distorted power chord riffs. A more serious guitarist would be crippled by this instrument's lack of versatility. If you are buying a guitar for your Blink-loving child for Christmas, and don't expect them to stick with it for long, this is a perfect albeit unnecessarily expensive solution. If you just want to blast out the casual punk song here and there and not take things too seriously, this is again perfect. If you actually want to be a guitarist, look elsewhere. Please.

Reliability & Durability — 5
The guitar should last quite well - no build flaws or inherent weaknesses.

Action, Fit & Finish — 5
This guitar ain't nothing but a Standard Strat sans a bit of hardware. There was nothing about mine which would in any way distinguish my comments here from the copious others available elsewhere on this site.

This guitar is a Strat with no neck or middle pickups. Tone controls have also gone by the wayside. One Duncan pickup in the bridge so you can blast out power chords until you actually improve a little. Check the initial reviews for detailed feature listings.
