I play Metal / Death Metal / Prog Metal, and the XXX fits that style perfectly. I use it with a Culler Amplification SC-5 tube amp. The Duncan Design bridge humbucker is supposed to be a cheap version of the JB. It sounds great and pushes my amp well. The mahogany body is very heavy, and gives a nice dark tone you'd expect from mahogany. Perfect for D standard tuning which I use.

Overall Impression — 9
I have owned this for 4 years. I play at least a few hours each week. Sometimes a lot of hours... This guitar has become my main axe. I used to be an Ibanez guy until I purchased this. The feel of the neck converted me. If it were stolen I would try to find another one. No longer in production, but they do pop up for sale online here and there. Overall a great guitar. It has managed to keep my "buy new guitar" syndrome in check for the last few years.

Reliability & Durability — 9
Would definitely withstand live playing. Strap buttons are nice and fat, larger than your average strap button. I'd never play live without a backup, but if I had to, this would be the guitar. Durability of the finish seems good. No wear yet. The gloss black does show fingerprints very well though, and when you clean it its only clean until you pick it up again.

Setup was near perfect for E standard when I bought it. Changed to .011's and went to D standard. Guitar had a ding in it and was being sold as blemished which is why I got it for $325 instead of $499. Only factory flaw I see is a couple of places on the binding where the finish was wet-sanded through. Has a Gun Metal grey finish on all the metal hardware, and after 4 years of heavy playing not a bit of it has tarnished. Not even the bridge. One thing I should point out is the fretwork on this guitar. Best I've ever seen in this price range. The fret ends are nice and rounded, no sharp edges, and the action will get very low, which means a good leveling job was done. I won't deduct points for the ding since I know it was there when I purchased.

Schecter XXX made in South Korea. Purchased from Guitar Center in Feb. 2008. 24 Fret Set Maple Neck, Carved top Mahogany body, Solid Black Finish. C-1 body style with Tune-o-matic bridge. Duncan Designed Humbuckers with 2 volume and 1 tone control. Grover tuners. These options are perfect for me so I have to give a 10 in this category.

I just bought one in a Nashville pawn shop for 189.00 w/ a gator case. I've seen several around town for very reasonable prices. I guess it ain't made for country, but neither am I.
