I use mostly EMG's (love, hate) and I get a really good Metal tone, I suggest buying a EQ for the loop it helps a TON. To get the XXX full potential I think a Speaker swap and a EQ is the way to go. I have heard that a lot of people seem to like them on EL34s, I have yet to get some to try it out but im pretty happy on 6l6's. The XXX rips without a EQ or speaker change- but KILLS with.

I play all types of stuff: Cleans, Blues, Rock, Metal, some heavy metal, and it is great. I have owned quite a few high-end amps ( i currently have a Engl powerball, Krank Rev, and a 5150). I have to say it is up to par with the 5150's, I seem to like it as much or more then the 5150. Overall the XXX is a great amp, and really looked over. Any questions just send me a message, Im getting some clips up on my profile soon!!

Ive dropped it a couple times, its pretty well built. Made in the USA. My 5150 is 15 years old and has been abused, and is still working great, Peavey makes some good stuff that is built to last!!! I would gig with it without a backup amp anyday. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasfgdfkgdfkgdl

Im sure someone listed all the features. I have to say- The built in EFX sound pretty dang good! I was like "I should of got the 60 watt, doesnt have those digital efx" but when I started playing around with them, i was very surprised. For the price used (around $400-500) they are GREAT. - (If you are going for a speaker swap I wouldnt advise getting a V30. I am a V30 fan but with the XXX it is just a little to bright + treby. I have my treb on 1 or 1.5 most of the time or else it sounds like ice picks in your ear. Not saying with a V30 it sounds bad- just you have to work with it.)

I used to have the Triple XXX know the one that looks like a Mesa Rectifier somewhat. It cost around 900 and really wasn't worth it. The gain channels were ok but the cleans were shocking. The worst thing was that it was meant to be a 100 watt tube amp and it was so reall struggles to be heard over drums... This combo is a different amp but if it has a similar tone to the head then I would really reccomend buying something else. Cheers!
I have this amp, not the combo but the Half Stack, I paid about 900 for the head itself and I had a friend who sold me the cabinet for 200. And honestly this amp can do anything. you can buy the stack on musicians friend but In my opinion its over priced. The combo is really good I would say the best place to find the combo amp is on Ebay speaking of which, there is one right now going for 500 bucks. Either way, I've been in two bands a classic rock one and a metal band and this amp has suited well for both the only thing it lacks is a reverb, but if you get yourself a reverb pedal is can even pull of blues extremely well.
This amp is simply amazing. I bought one at Musisian's Friend on a closeout for $500 a few years ago. I was a bit worried about how the effects would sound but, in all honesty, they sound fantastic. This amp is probably the best Peavey has ever built. Get one on Ebay if you can.
