Sound — 9
I ALWAYS have this pedal activated. Compression is an effect most people like or don't and sometimes can't even hear the difference of having it or not, mostly due to an untrained ear. With that said, some compression can be described as "squishy" this Compressor in particular is modeled after the Vintage FET style compression and offers up a very transparent compression sound. I love these style of compressors because they allow you to get the benefits of a great compressed sound but doesn't translate into an obvious squished sound. Your dynamics stay mostly intact with this pedal unlike other popular offerings and I think that makes this pedal work and sound great!
Overall Impression — 8
These are currently no longer be made by BBE so if you get a chance to Pick one up, you should! This pedal is perfect for those who want a compressed sound that can be flexible and work with all types of music and not be overbearing on the overall sound of your guitar. Simple design, easy to use, you can't go wrong.
Reliability & Durability — 8
This pedal is surrounded in a metal case and the knobs and foot-switch are of metal construct. BBE's selection of stompboxes all share the same design for the most part and have never failed on me at a gig or at home. I've used this at countless gigs and it has held up so far and I have no immediate worries of it failing any time soon.
Ease of Use — 8
The pedal itself is pretty straightforward in it's use. It has two knobs that correspond to the volume of the pedal and the overall compression effect it will give. Rolling the "bias" knob to the left will give you a smooth and warmer compression, which is great for bluesy playing, rolling the knob to the right will give you a really defined plucky sound found in a lot of country type music. The manual gives you some suggested settings, but I find it works best with both knobs just passed noon.
