Avril Lavigne: Canada (Toronto), March 11, 2004
For the new songs - the fans mostly moved their heads to the rhythm while taking in the lyrics, but as the song progressed, most fans caught on to the chorus and started singing as well.

Sound: The sound of this little performance was actually really pure and Crisp-Avril sounds better acoustic than electric (this was a 6 song-acoustic promo mall tour for the "Under My Skin" album). Her voice was heard clearly in the mall, despite the fact that you couldn't hear when she was talking because of the loud, screaming, and somewhat psychotic fans (don't know if i was one of them). Even though it was only her singing songs that the fans have never heard of yet (this is before the release of the album) with her acoustic guitar and some backing vocals from her lead guitarist Evan-also with a acoustic guitar, the half hour performance was powerful - as all the fans listened intently as she literally stopped all talking and screaming with her singing and the sound of the guitars. The sound was beautiful, soothing, and natural. // 10

Perfomance: This was a 6 song performance with Avril performing 4 songs from the second album (Don't Tell Me, My Happy Ending, He Wasn't, Take Me Away)and 2 of her biggest hits from the first album (Sk8er Boi, Complicated). For the new songs - the fans mostly moved their heads to the rhythm while taking in the lyrics, but as the song progressed, most fans caught on to the chorus and started singing as well. For the hits, I'm Telling You, Literally everybody knew the words and were belting them out as Avril was saying - "feel free to sing along". From the people on the first floor of the mall to the people looking down from the rail on the second floor-everyone was giving their best impression of 'Sk8er Boi' and 'complicated'. I think the best moment for me was when Avril actually stared at me for like 15 seconds, then smiled at me (I was standing on the rail on the first floor, right in front of her, close to the speakers, so I was higher then a lot of the fans). Anyway, that was one of the best moments ever. Overall, everyone loved the free performance (I assume, cause they were all smiling as they left the mall after the performance). // 10

Overall Impression: This was a free promo mall tour for the second album in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at Fairview Mall, on March 11, 2004 ( one of the 27 dates scheduled). This whole mall tour thing was supposed to be "top secret", as fans only knew about where she was performing only 48 hours before the performance. I only knew about the performance that same day while looking through the newspaper on the subway, as I was skipping the morning classes of school. Fortunately, the mall was only a 15 minute walk from my school. Anyway, I thought that about a couple hundred fans would show up - but 4000 loyal fans of all ages and from both genders showed up. About the show, Avril and Evan showed up an hour late (it was supposed to be at 4:30 that afternoon) because of traffic (it was raining outside), but none of the fans left-we all just stood there waiting patiently, (the entire time, even when Avril was not yet there, people were chanting her name, screaming, and waving their hand-made posters and signs). Honestly, you could feel the enthusiam and love of the fans. When she did show up - let me tell you-she did not disappoint. It was f--ckin' awesome. // 10
