Sound: Well, Symphony X has always been a sharp-sounding band to my ears. And this album, as well as tour, proved to be no exception! Every song they did was awesome, mostly classics from their back catalogue and of course, spot-on in terms of musucianship. I must say that Russell Allen was at his best in my honest opinion, great sound and really got the crowd going too. And of course my favourite part of the band, Michael Romeo's ridiculous soloing style chocked full of string-skipped arepeggios, insane speed-picking runs & smooth-as-a-baby's-ass legato. This was quite an awesome show for not only Symphony X fans but prog metal fans as well. // 9

Perfomance: Everybody in the joint enjoyed the show, no doubt about that. Russell Allen played a huge roll in that but then again so did the musicians. Guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, they all played a huge roll in the show and to the crowd. Everyone has their favourite member in a band and nobody had an excuse to be disappointed by any of the performances. The light show was pretty decent too, somewhat simple what with all the spotlighting and such but it was stil interesting. Particularly the beginning of the show when they played the intro tune from Paradise Lost and literally told a story with the use of the lights being moved around the backdrop displaying the artwork of their latest album! And finally a setlist to die for if you're a Symphony X fan. Surely they played some recent tunes, but the classic setlist segement was unbelievable. Inferno (Unleash the Fire), Sea of Lies, Of Sins & Shadows (my personal favourite), Smoke & Mirrors and finally, the finale: The Odyssey. Easily the greatest Encore of all time in my opinion. The 24-plus-minute prog masterpiece was performed with pure perfection. Every detail was touched on and the crowd added so much to the mix believe it or not! All in all a great show that was not to be missed by a Symphony X fan, huge or not. // 10

Overall Impression: Canada, Montreal, at The Medley on July 16th 2007. The openers were Echoes of Eternity & Sanctity, really nonsensical headliners when compared to the likes of Symphony X if you ask me but hey, whatta ya gonna do? They would have been pretty good acts if it weren't for all their damn feedback from the vocals and bass! However, taking the ticket cost into consideration $24.00 Canadian for 3 bands, that's one helluva great deal ya know. Anyways, it won't be a show I'll forget for a long time that's for sure, it's gotta be the best show I've seen yet! So in a few words: will I go to see the next Symphony X show? Hell yes! And I suggest anyone Who is remotely a fan of any kind to do the same! // 10
